General information and interesting facts about white wine

How often has it accompanied us, through good times and bad, through moments of boredom and joy. We've toasted with it, laughed, and sometimes even cried. After a long day, it has rewarded us, listened to our thoughts, and rocked us to sleep – sometimes tenderly, sometimes harshly. But no, we're not talking about a life partner here, but about our beloved white wine.

We're convinced that wine deserves to be learned more about it. Therefore, we'd like to take you on a little journey and talk about why it's worth enjoying wine. Because once again, thanks to our climate, we Germans are one of the most important white wine-producing countries in the world.

STORAGE OF WHITE WINE

Wine is fundamentally intended for immediate consumption. Only about 20% of the world's white wine is stored for extended periods. However, the crucial component in wine storage is temperature. This is most effectively maintained in dedicated wine cellars. Unfortunately, not everyone is privileged to have access to such cellars. Therefore, some wine lovers choose to purchase their own wine refrigerator.

Nevertheless, there is nothing wrong with storing wine in a conventional refrigerator, as long as the optimal drinking temperature is reached.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY OF WHITE WINE

Greek wine is often considered the essence of the earth. Come, pour yourself a glass... In fact, wine production originated in ancient Greece. Although many might assume that red wine was the only known type of wine for a long time, the art of winemaking was already complex before the birth of Christ.

Surprisingly, even white wine was perfected by monks. Who would have thought?

PRODUCTION OF WHITE WINE

The process naturally begins with the harvesting of the grapes. This is followed by the crushing of the grapes, which is known as mashing. In the production of white wine, unlike red wine, the grape skins are separated from the mash and the must is pressed.

Fermentation then begins in special fermentation tanks. During this process, the fruit sugar is converted into alcohol, meaning that the longer the fermentation lasts, the less sweet the wine will be. Aging can now begin, often in wooden barrels, stainless steel tanks, or barriques. Finally, the wine just needs to be bottled before it can be enjoyed.

Planting grapevines in your own garden

If you can't get enough of sweet berries in any form, it might be worth considering growing grapevines in your own garden. Sunny, sheltered spots in the garden or even on your balcony are ideal. They're not only aesthetically pleasing but also provide a perfect, natural privacy screen.

Since grapevines are relatively uncomplicated, even people without much gardening experience should give it a try.

THE RIGHT DRINKING TEMPERATURE FOR YOUR WHITE WINE

The most important thing is that white wine should always be enjoyed chilled. To fully develop its flavor, an ideal drinking temperature of 10°C to 12°C is recommended. Sweet wines should even be consumed at 14°C. You may have already noticed that wine loses its flavor when it's too cold.

We recommend avoiding ice cubes, as they can impair the flavor. Better alternatives include plastic ice cubes or a stylish bottle cooler.

THE BEST DISHES AND FOOD TO SERVE WITH WHITE WINE

Many people enjoy white wine, whether sweet or sour, as a refreshing addition, especially on hot days. However, white wine is equally inspiring as an accompaniment to a great meal, and for some, a true art form.

Weinschmeckeria wine cocktail recipe

It's wine o'clock, why not try a wine cooler?

INGREDIENTS

  • Grigione (Pinot Grigio) – F.lli Vincenzi
  • Grenadine
  • soda water
  • ice cubes

PREPARATION

Place some ice cubes in a wine glass, preferably a large red wine glass, to lower the temperature of the drink without diluting the flavor. Then, add about 10 ml of grenadine, according to your personal taste, to add a sweet and fruity note. Complement the mixture with Grigione (Pinot Grigio) – F.lli Vincenzi, a white wine characterized by its fruity and floral aromas.

Then carefully pour in soda water to give the drink a refreshing fizz. Stir gently to maintain the carbonation and ensure an even distribution of the flavors.

Every child cries white, right?

White wine is made from processing white grapes, right?

While this is generally true, there is also a method in which red grapes are used to produce white wine. One example is the Pinot Noir grape variety, which is used to produce Blanc de Noir.

The grapes are processed in the traditional way, with one exception: contact with the skin, which normally gives off the red color, is avoided.

How long does open white wine keep?

This question arises time and again. Ideally, of course, you'd want to drink the wine immediately. However, there are times when you don't finish a bottle completely and need to store it until the next time.

If kept closed and refrigerated, the wine can usually be enjoyed two to five days later. However, this rule only applies to white wine.

How many calories does white wine have: dry, semi-dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet or sweet?

As the grapes ripen, their sugar content increases, and the acidity naturally decreases. During fermentation, the fructose is converted into alcohol.

In general, it can be said that a 200 ml glass of white wine contains about 150 calories, waiting to be enjoyed.

In this short overview you will find out exactly how much residual sugar remains in your wine.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE WINE CORKS?

After opening the bottle, most people throw the cork straight into the trash.

Nevertheless, there are endless creative things that can be made from wine corks.

  • keychain
